    Free and open drivers for wifi cards are quite difficult to obtain.

    Drivers for Linux are usually based on reverse engineering or binary-only wrappers for drivers of other operating systems.

    The information about the chipset of the cards are usually hidden by the manufacturer's policy. Usually, you cannot give away any information which allows designing a driver without a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

    Chipforge wants to create an OPEN chipset for wifi cards based on a completly free design.
